Fashionable Figures on the Beach

Fashionable Figures on the Beach

Fashionable Figures on the Beach (Eugene Boudin 1897) is the only work I photographed at the recent exhibition at the MFA Houston. Since I buy the catalogs of exhibitions I attend, I have been making a better effort to SEE the paintings with my eyes. Since I am a beach guy, you know I had to capture this one.

All I can say is beach fashion has come a long way compared to what we see now.

As a mentor to Monet, Boudin once told him to “Learn to draw well and appreciate the sea, the light, the blue sky.” Monet believed this is how he came to understand nature and developed his love for it. I am personally developing an understanding of where he is coming from!
